Monica Syrdal has been a partner in Hjort since 2008, working primarily with clients in the telecom, technology and media sectors. She is a specialist in EU/EEA and competition law, but works also with the GDPR, media and IP-related matters, hereunder with matters in the nexus of IP and competition law.
She was previously an in-house lawyer with the Norwegian telecommunication incumbent Telenor from 2000 to 2008. Before joining Telenor, she started her career at Norwegian law firm Thommessen, was a deputy judge in a district court just north of Oslo and a national expert with the EFTA Surveillance Authority’s department for competition and state aid. She graduated with a law degree from the University of Oslo in 1995 and has a diploma in competition law from Kings College in London.
From 2012-2018, she was an elected member of the Norwegian Bar Association's legislative committee on European and competition law, the last two years as its leader.
She speaks English and German in addition to Norwegian.
