Coding the future?

In the first year after the adoption of the European Electronic Communications Code, the new legislative framework for electronic communications in the EU, the conference provides a critical opportunity to scrutinize market developments at the cusp between old and new legal and regulatory regimes, to take the pulse on transposition efforts and issues, and to look ahead to the new incoming Commission and its ambition to create a Europe fit for the digital age and the role of connectivity within it.

In 2019, the ecta Regulatory Conference will therefore focus on what the quest for very high capacity networks under the Code implies in terms of continuities and discontinuities with existing rules, how the balance between services and infrastructure competition is likely to evolve and how new challenges of security and sustainability fit into this picture. Together with the results from the World Radio Communications Conference and reflections on digital competition policy, these aspects define the backdrop for conversations about medium-term strategic development perspectives for Europe as a digital continent and the European Commission’s vision for digital connectivity as an element of a long-term strategy for Europe’s industrial  future.

Networking

Now in its 19th edition, the annual ecta Regulatory Conference is today widely recognised as one of the ‘must attend’ policy events in the European electronic communications sector. Covering the most important regulatory policy issues that occupy the minds of industry, regulators and the European institutions, it provides a unique platform to raise corporate profile, create new connections and assess new opportunities in the European electronic communications sector in the light of evolving EU digital policy.
Keynotes, panel sessions and midday briefings as well as networking opportunities provide sponsors and participants with the ideal setting to exchange about the challenges that the Code brings, the milestones until its application and the wider context shaping the future trajectory for competitive electronic communications and their regulation in the EU.
