Markus Schulte

Markus Schulte, PhD (born in 1966) has been a member of the Cabinet of EU Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger since 2013. In the "Digital Economy and Society" portfolio, he is responsible for, among other things, the elecommunication sector and for the digitisation of European industry.
Prior to that, he was responsible for the energy market for the internal market for electricity and gas. Mr Schulte has been with the European Commission since 2005, before joining the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General and the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs. From 1999 to 2005 he was with the International Monetary Fund in Washington. He was promoted in 1996 at the London School of Economics in Economic History.
