ASOTEM - Asociación de Operadores de Telecomunicaciones Empresariales (Business Telecommunications Operators Association)

Telecom operators specialized in business services have joined together to form  ASOTEM, aiming to promote common goals, including participation in regulatory and competition issues, reduction of operational costs, and the increase of its international presence in order to achieve greater efficiency and visibility.

The Association, which is open to new members, consists of twelve operators which represent the diversity of the sector: from those with longstanding nationwide presence, as Sarenet, Grupalia Internet [ GNET ] or Aire Networks, to other initially linked to specific territories, as DTI2 (Andalusia), Idecnet (Canary Islands), Imatel (Basque Country), Oceans (Galicia), ProRed (Valencia), or with specific business approaches, as Adamo (FTTH), Carrier Enabler (Wholesale) or Zertia (Managed Services), and, last but definitely not least, who successfully entered the stock market (MAB) with new projects, as VozTelecom.

Through this initiative, these operators aim to promote specialized quality services in the enterprise market, both for large companies and for SMEs and even for professionals and freelancers, to whom, they say, quoting data from the Spanish Regulator (CNMC), general-market operators offer services excessively similar to those aimed for residential customers, to really suit businesses needs. Business services are a market in which the position of these specialized operators is very strong, although sometimes not perceived, because their presence is concealed with the figures, much larger, from operators directed to the residential market.

ASOTEM's members are jointly addressing regulatory improvement initiatives, which deal with general interest issues, considering that current regulation is not adapted to telecom needs of businesses, because its approach is basically oriented to the residential market. This situation causes serious damages to the competitiveness of businesses, which lack an adequate supply of telecommunications services, adapted sufficiently to their requirements, which would be essential for economic growth.

It has started commercial operations in Greece in October 2008. Being the latest entrant in an already mature telecommunications market, the company has implemented differentiation strategies as a means to facilitate growth and development. It was the first operator to offer a new era of broadband solutions to the Greek mass market based on the VDSL2 technology, providing high speeds of up to 50Mbps. FASTWEB is the largest alternative fixed-line telecommunications provider in Italy

The quality of FASTWEB’s service and its ability to meet customers’ needs are the two main assets of FASTWEB’s strategy.

FASTWEB’s history is consistent with this, both as first telecommunications provider in the world to build a next-generation full-IP network and as the first company to offer all market segments its voice and data services and a series of value-added applications, leveraging on this infrastructure.
