Promoting Competition in Europe's Electronic Communications Sector

ECTA's Regulatory Secretariat in Brussels works closely with our Members and key European institutions to bring about change in regulation which supports competition, investment and innovation in the European ICT sector.

  • Promoting the interests of your company in European-level policy making
  • Helping meet national objectives through sharing best practice, benchmarking, supporting EU intervention on national issues
  • Developing your regulatory knowledge/contacts/effectiveness through information sharing/networking opportunities with industry/Government

ECTA also organises an annual regulatory conference and various workshops aimed at delivering 'up to the minute' regulatory information to senior decision and regulatory policy makers.

We support our Members' National Interests

Information on best practice regulatory approaches eg ladder of investment, accounting separation

  • Advice and information-sharing amongst members on application of specific regulatory conditions eg number portability, CPS, LLU
  • International benchmarking to increase national lobbying/PR effectiveness (eg scorecards)
  • Lobbying EU institutions to influence outcome of national market reviews (article 7 procedure)
  • Assistance on bringing national competition cases before Commission
  • Advice on impact of EU decisions on business performance
  • ECTA attendance and material to support meetings with NRAs/Govts (subject to availability/cost)

We support our Members at EU Level

Developing pan-European industry position papers to influence EU-level decisions eg. 2006 Review, Remedies, Next Gen Networks, Article 82

  • Facilitating contact with and lobbying of European Commission, Parliament and Council up to highest level
  • Input to precedent-setting competition/market analysis cases e.g. German vDSL, Spanish mobile origination
  • Ground-breaking research and analysis to support high-level messaging e.g. regulatory scorecard and studies
  • Inside information about EU developments and the views of decision-makers
