Excel and Brooktrout Change Company Name to Cantata Technology

Combination Creates Leading Provider of Enabling Technology for Anytime, Anywhere IP-based Communications

Hoeilaart, BELGIUM – March 20, 2006—Excel Switching and Brooktrout Technology, who combined operations in October 2005, today announced their new company name—Cantata Technology—accompanied by a corporate-wide re-branding initiative to present a unified approach to the market. Cantata Technology is the industry’s leading provider of standards-based enabling technology including media servers, media gateways and voice and fax platforms for the enterprise and service provider markets.

“Our new name, Cantata, is a word derived from a rich musical composition in which talents converge to create something truly unique. A cantata is a work far more innovative, integrated and engaging than the sum of its parts. This same synergy is embodied in Cantata Technology,” said Marc Zionts, CEO of Cantata Technology. “Our vision is to serve as the foundation for anytime, anywhere IP-based communications applications. While our company name and branding have changed, our customers and partners can be assured that we will continue to deliver the same reliable technology, service, and support that they’ve known us for over the years.”

Cantata Technology is headquartered in Needham, Massachusetts, with a strong global presence, including offices in Belgium, the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Canada, and Japan and a worldwide network of distributors, systems integrators, and resellers. Cantata employs approximately 360 people worldwide. Cantata’s products are deployed in enterprise and service provider networks in more than 80 countries, at companies such as Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, Bank of America, Deutsche Telecom, and Alcoa.

A Foundation for Innovation

Leveraging more than 20 years of experience, Cantata’s proven, open standards-based technology has given rise to one of the largest, broadest and deepest technology product lines in the communications industry. Used extensively by enterprises and service providers alike, Cantata’s technology enables innovative services and solutions with applications ranging from voice and video messaging, prepaid services, fax over IP, interactive voice response, personal ring back tone and speech-enabled services.

Cantata Technology’s product lines will be leveraging the familiar former company names to reflect the rich heritage of the technology. The Excel name will continue for many carrier products, the SnowShore name will be used for its IP Media Server, and the Brooktrout name will be used for the company’s voice and fax enterprise products.

What the Industry is Saying

"Verizon Business encourages our vendors to be strong technology leaders and innovators," said Steve Smiley, director of Verizon Business IT Call Processing Infrastructure. "Verizon Business has worked with both Brooktrout and Excel in the past and has realized the value of their products and services.  As the needs of communications service providers converge, the industry looks forward to companies such as Cantata Technology that will serve as providers of enabling technology for anytime, anywhere IP-based communications."

"The telecommunications industry is continuing to grow and evolve, and Cantata Technology has the experience, partnerships and product lines to support the needs of customers in any communications environment.  The combination of Excel Switching and Brooktrout Technology results in a stronger player offering a more comprehensive set of solutions the market is demanding. Service providers and enterprises no longer have to shop around-all applications and services for any network environment can be fully supported by Cantata's technology. This is a company to watch," said Stéphane Téral, directing analyst, Service Provider Next Gen Voice and Mobile Core, Infonetics Research.
