Vassilis Giannopoulos was born in Athens on the 5th of August 1970. He obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and a MSc in Information Technology with distinction from UCL of the University of London. He also holds an MBA from the Athens Laboratory of Business Administration (ALBA).
After his military service he became involved with the Telecom sector in 1997 as one of the first employees of Forthnet SA. Over the last 13 years he has held the positions of Account Manager, Product Manager, Group Product Manager and Business Unit Manager inside the company. Today he holds the position of the Strategy Director of the Group and is in charge of the CEO.s Office reporting directly to the CEO of the company. He is coordinating corporate development strategies, handling strategic planning for the company and business modeling. Furthermore he is involved in international co-operations and investment opportunities and participates in the development of the company.s strategy regarding the regulatory environment in the telecommunications market in Greece.
He has been involved in a large number of telecommunication projects in Greece and has significant experience in the local and regional market. Among others he has been involved in the design of a fiber optic network in Greece to serve the increasing requirements of the company and the implementation of the Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) project for the introduction of broadband access services, the xDSL network deployment as well as the investigation of investment opportunities in Cyprus and the Balkan markets. He also headed the acquisition of the largest payTV DTH operator (Nova).
He is also Secretary of the Committee for e-Communication of the Federation of Hellenic Information Technology & Communications Enterprises (SEPE). He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece.
